Meet the Chef

Hi Everyone!

My name is April and baking is my passion - along with being a mother to one of the best sons in the world! (I’m not prejudiced at all, just ask anyone. J) There are actually many things I love to do but baking and writing are my absolute favorites. I figured by posting a blog, I could combine everything I love all in one place. (My son will be joining me on videotapes later, so my collection is complete.)

I do love to write and to bake. Baking is an expression of love for me. Each baked item is an extension of who I am and I enjoy sharing them with all my family and friends. The recipes can be simple or complex, it doesn't matter. What is important is that they bring some kind of happiness or joy to the receiver. I believe a gift from the heart is truly special and if I can make someone smile with a cookie or a cupcake, then that’s what I’m going to do.  (Although many of the items shared will be baked goods, I will also be discussing other foods as well, such as spaghetti sauce and roast chicken.)

I have been baking or cooking for as long as I can remember. I look back on the days of my Easy Bake Oven with such pride. I’m sure my mother and father grew tired of all the light bulb cakes I produced and made them try. I had a great customer base though with two sisters and a baby brother. They couldn't wait for me to bake something else. I was hooked.

As the eldest of the children, it was also my responsibility to make lunches or breakfast as we prepared to go to school. We had a routine and it worked well for all of us. When I grew old enough to work the stove, my mother taught me how to make dinner or bake desserts. Some of her family recipes will be included because those are the ones I grew up with. Many of the foods I will discuss will be particular family favorites or recipes passed down from one generation to the next. There will also be goodies that I have found on my own and experimented with over the years. All the recipes I post have been tried and tested by myself or my family members. If it’s not a success, I toss the recipe out. If there is a new recipe that I haven’t used before, I will clearly let you know.

This blog is dedicated to both new and experienced chefs. I keep my ingredients simple; because that’s the way I like to cook. There’s nothing worse than having to search through different grocery stores trying to find a certain herb or ingredient that you can’t taste anyway. There may be recipes that use box mixes for a base, or cans of vegetables for soup stock. My recipes vary, but I will try very hard to keep the instructions easy. Do your best to just have a good time. If something doesn't come out the way you want in the beginning, it’s alright. Make it work for you. I can tell you that there is nothing more satisfying than someone devouring all your cookies or chowder and asking for more. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I hope that you enjoy my blog. It is different from anything else I have written before. Many people have asked for my recipes and I thought I would finally share them with the world. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to drop me a line. I look forward to sharing a piece of April with each of my readers and I hope I can be an inspiration for anyone new who wants to learn what the world of baking and cooking is all about.
